Hi

Interior Designing , as a profession , is gaining huge popularity in India. You need to be creative and confident if you want to have a successful career in interior designing.

When it comes to undergraduate interior designing, three main course formats are available:

1. BACHELORS DEGREE COURSES

Degree courses in are:

BA Interior Design- Duration is 3 years

Bachelor of Architecture Interior Design- Duration is 5 years

Bachelor of Interior Design- Duration is 5 years( CEPT Course)

BA Interior Architecture and Design- 3 years

Bachelor of Design (B.Des) interior design- 4 years

B.Sc interior design-3 years

Eligibility criteria: in case almost all the courses mentioned above class 12 ( any stream) from a recognised board is the minimum qualification required.

Minimum marks are usually around 45-50%

To secure admission in reputed institutes , one must appear for relevant entrance exams. Some well known entrance exams are: NATA, CEED, NID, CEPT entrance test, state- wise entrance test etc.

Most institutions follow ' Merit Based Admission' process, i.e. marks scored in entrance test and marks scored in board examination are taken into consideration.  Some institutes follow Direct Admission process without entrance exam.

Graduates may further go for relevant programs such as - MA, M.Sc, Master of interior design, M.Arch.

Other than masters degree graduates may also go for PG diploma as well as PG certificate.

2. DIPLOMA COURSES

Well known diploma courses are:

Diploma in Interior Design

Diploma in Interior Design and Architecture

Duration depends on institute and Nature of program. It could be between 1-2 years.

Eligibility criteria will be same as bachelors degree courses.

Admission process depends on institute. Some follow Merit Based Admission process, others go for Direct Admission.

After completing diploma, one may go for BA, B.Arch, and B.Sc, which are related to Interior Design and Architecture.

3. CERTIFICATE COURSES

Certificate courses are not as valuable as degree and diploma courses

So I would suggest you to avoid this option.

Most interior designer have atleast a bachelor's degree, so earn a degree.

Pass the national council for interior design qualification

Take some good projects and build a strong portfolio.

Enjoy your profession and do hard work to achieve success.

All the Best!!
