Hi dear,

Hope you are doing well!

Now let's go through your question.

Astrophysics is the study of watching the movements of planets, stars and other celestial bodies in the space, while cosmology is the investigation of the history and structure of the universe, or the universe, overall, to get into this field, you have to study Physics and Maths at the undergraduate level and after that take up the specialized degree program for your Master's or Doctorate program.

There are no Bachelor programs in cosmology in India, however, there are post graduate level programs which cover cosmology subject. Cosmologists mainly take care of the investigation of the history and structure of the universe.

For making a career in cosmology, one needs to study Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level and after that you can go for Bachelor degree courses in Engineering or core Physics or Astrophysics which are offered at various Institutes in India.

Some of the top Colleges are as follows:

  • Institutes to study cosmology in India
  • India Institutes of Space Science and Technology, Trivandrum
  • Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore
  • Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Pune
  • Raman Research Institute, Bangalore
  • Physical Research laboratory, Ahmedabad
  • Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore

Thank You & All the best!

Hello Niranjan.

Well. a great JEE ADV rank will definitely help you and that is something you should be working on.
But there isnt any institute offering you a undergrad course in cosmology in India. So a B.Math.,BS/ B.Sc . in Math or Physics,MS/ M.Sc . with a proper masters thesis related to cosmology would help you further research in cosmology. IIST has a B.Tech. programme in physical sciences plus the work culture in most departments at ISRO is led by innovative technologists and brilliant engineers. So a theoretical physicist wont be of much help there.
