The Common Proficiency Test or CPT exam has four topics in the syllabus - Accounts, Economics, Mercantile law and Quantitative Aptitude. Accounts is the one of the most scoring subjects and as you have studied commerce in intermediate, you are quite familiar to this. Solve as many problems as possible to make the basic strong and to gain confidence. Fundamentals of Accounting for CPT is one of the most recommeded books for Accountings preparation. For Economics, you must sit with a notebook to write down your short notes which can help you in revision. There are few easy small topics in Economics such as Economic policies, investment, savings etc which will not take much time to understand and the rest of the time you can spend for the important topics. Mercantile law includes various acts, laws and many terminologies. Make sure all are known to you. You can study from ICAIs CPT Mercantile Law Study material. Quantitative aptitude is an interesting topic, work out various problems related to correlation, regression, differentiation, integration, permutation, combinations, Ratio and Proportion, Sets, functions and relations, simple and compound interest etc. Solve problems from ICAI's CPT Study Material for Quantitative Aptitude. Once done with all the four subjects, you can start solving sample papers and give mock tests as many as possible. Along with this , regularly solve mathematical problems which you can get on Internet, keep reading the theories also. In actual exam, only answer the question which you are sure about, as marks will be deducted for wrong responses.

Dear Ayaan,

CPT is an examination which can be cleared without the need to go to a coaching institute where there are dozens of students along with you, and the teacher explains concepts which are already clearly elucidated in the text books provided by ICAI.

If a concept is not clear in the first reading then you should read it again. If there is an issue comprehending a topic then you should go to a coach who will resolve your doubts personally as it is very important to get a thorough understanding of all concepts.

You need to master four areas - Quantitative Aptitude, Accountancy, Mercantile Laws and General Economics.

I hope you got the answer!!

All the best!!
