Hi Ganesh,

How to prepare for CAT is a completely subjective call. However, this is what I suggest to everyone who approaches me and this is what I myself followed as well and it led to me being in one of the Old IIMs.

Step 1: Start reading Newspaper Daily.

Step 2: Search for a good coaching institute and follow their material and classes thoroughly

Step 3: Concentrate on learning and strengthening your concepts in each section and topic wise individually.

Step 4: Once your concepts are clear increase the speed topic wise

Sstep 5: Practice sectional tests and formulate strategies for each section that work best for you.

Step 6: Practice full length tests and analyse your performace, strengths, weaknesses etc.

Step 7: Keep writing and analysing as many mocks as possible in a time-bound scenario and replicate the CAT model.

Practice and analysis will be your final key to success.

Since you are in 2nd year, you still have a lot of time. 3hours daily with full concentration and dedication would get you at 99%le and above.

Hello Applicant,

Now, this depends on the time frame you are operating in. If you have more than 6 months, I would recommend you join a proper CAT coaching where they can guide you at every step and you will have plenty of time in your hand to learn each and every concept from book and then prepare from the material given by them and sometimes the coaching also takes tests which will help you improve even more with visible results.

But if you don't have enough time I suggest you go by following books -

1) Quant - How to crack Quant Aptitude by Arun Sharma

2) Verbal - Better English by Norman Lewis

3) Vocab - Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis and Hindu editorials

Good luck!
