Firstly you don't need to think much 1st year of college is most easy. But some students become careless and overconfident because everyone tells them first  year is so easy. But the reality is You have to score well and you can score well by just clearing your +2 basics PCM . You should be Clear with your +2 subjects because most of the first year syllabus is related to that. So, First of all be clear with that.

Second, make good relations with seniors and ask them for notes and guidance for better books to prepare for exam. Every senior knows how to score well. Whether he himself is topper or not but every senior has knowledge about academics. If you have proper notes and stuff which contains evrything that is in your syllabus than you can score awesome just by studying at the exam time.

Enjoy college life explore as much as possible but side by side keep grasping the notes and books for exams.

In first year the syllabus and all the academic curriculum are same for all branches. To score well in first year you need to clear all the basics of your subjects, practice as much numerical you can, study mechanics subject every day (if it is in your syllabus), watch videos for sure to clear your basics that will save a lot of time, solve previous 5 years question and most importantly enjoy the college life. Explore and involve in the events that can help you in the future.
