Ofcourse there is no restriction you can take your gate exam from any of the streams irrespective of your current stream infact many students from mechanical, civil they do give exams from cse, ece as they later on realise that they have interest in other streams. Almost all IITs accepts students for PG in ece( subject will be chosen by you). Some of the famous IITs for PG are IITB, IITK, IITD, ISM DHANBAD, IITM etc.

see you can appear in gate exam from any of the discipline if you have the eligibility criteria, since you have engineering background you may appear in gate from ece stream, however most of the colleges includes iit kharagpur, iit delhi does not allow candidates from other department to admission in core ece disciples  like vlsi and microelectronics, rf and radio wave technology, however some of the interdisciplinary course like data science energy management is open for all streams, also you will not eligible to apply for psu which hires ece candidates based on gate score.
