But for iits, you have to score good rank in jee advanced instead of jee mains.

You have to appear for jee advance to get admission into IIT's,with jee main you can get admission only to central,govt institutions and private colleges accepting jee main score,joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main iexam is the gateway for the admission to various B.Tech/B.E. programmes offered by 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 CFTIs. You have a decent score in JEE Main, but you cannot get admission in IITs based on JEE Main. Admission in IIT is on the basis of JEE Advanced rank and score. JEE Main Paper-1 is only a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced and does not provide admission into NITs.
