If you have keen interest in doing research work then only go for it.  If you want to some different  then you can opt for research work  .

For research you must have right supervision, talent interest in writing thesis, project timeline.

So find a right supervisor, keep your plan realistic  . Otherwise Engineering is not a bad option.
