With 79 percentile in JEE Main (SC female category), you have a chance to get admission in lower-ranked NITs with branches like Civil, Metallurgical, or Biotechnology Engineering. Admission to top branches like CSE may be difficult. Your chances improve if applying under Home State Quota in certain NITs

Hello aspirant,

Students with this percentile are unlikely to get admitted to top IIITs or NITs. However, certain other prominent government colleges, such as SAGE University, Symbiosis University, GITAM University, and others, accept JEE Main scores in the 70–80 percentile, thus candidates don't need to lose hope.

Thank you

Hello there,

With 79 percentile in JEE Mains Session 1 and belonging to the SC category (female), you have a fair chance of getting admission into lower-ranked NITs and core branches in mid-tier NITs. Based on previous cutoffs, you may get:

  • NIT Agartala – Civil, Mechanical, Chemical

  • NIT Mizoram, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Nagaland, NIT Sikkim, NIT Arunachal Pradesh – Various branches

  • NIT Silchar, NIT Jalandhar, NIT Raipur, NIT Patna – Less competitive branches like Civil, Biotechnology, or Metallurgy

For better branches or a seat in top NITs, aim for 85+ percentile in the next attempt. Also, consider IIITs and GFTIs, which may have seats available in your category.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries then feel free to share your questions with us we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you and wishing you all the best for your bright future.

hi,

With 79%ile in JEE Main (Session 1) and being from the SC category (female) , your expected category rank should be around 20,000–25,000 (SC category rank) . However, this may vary depending on overall competition and normalization in Session 2 .

NIT Admission Possibilities (SC Category, Female)

With this percentile, you have a chance in lower or newer NITs in less competitive branches . Here’s an estimate based on past cutoffs:

Possible NITs You Can Get (Based on Previous Year Cutoffs)

NIT Branches You May Get
NIT Mizoram Civil, Mechanical, ECE, Electrical
NIT Meghalaya Civil, Mechanical, ECE
NIT Sikkim Civil, Mechanical, Electrical
NIT Nagaland Civil, ECE, Electrical
NIT Arunachal Pradesh Civil, Mechanical, ECE
NIT Manipur Civil, Mechanical, Electrical
NIT Srinagar Civil, Chemical, Mechanical

to avoid risks or to get better NITs should might consider the following options :-

  • Attempt JEE Main Session 2

    • If you score 85+ percentile , you can get better NITs with good branches.
    • Focus on SC reservation cutoffs for core branches (CSE, ECE, EE, etc.) in top NITs .
  • Consider CSAB Special Rounds

    • Many SC seats remain vacant and are allotted in CSAB Special Rounds .
    • You may get better NITs after the JoSAA counseling rounds .
  • Apply to IIITs & GFTIs

    • Some IIITs and GFTIs have lower SC cutoffs than NITs.

hope this helps
