According to me, the summer vacations if your second year is the best time to prepare for GATE. Please note that GATE is used to gain admissions not only into the IITs, but you can also go abroad for higher studies using your GATE score or land a job in a good PSU.

Next, would be to chalk out a proper study plan. What am I going to study today and for how many hours? Such preparations should be done beforehand.
