I am interested in joining NID. But what are the selection procedures for getting admission and is it different for each NID?

To get into NID , you need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), which has two stages: Prelims and Mains, followed by a studio test and interview for MDes programs. The selection process is generally the same across all NID campuses, though some programs like PhD have specific requirements.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the NID admission process:

1. Eligibility:

Undergraduate (B.Des) programs: Candidates must have completed their higher secondary education (10+2) from a recognized board.

Postgraduate (M.Des) programs: Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree.

PhD programs: Candidates must hold a master's degree in Design.

2. Design Aptitude Test (DAT):

DAT Prelims: This is a written exam assessing design aptitude.

DAT Mains: Shortlisted candidates from DAT Prelims appear for DAT Mains, which includes a studio test and interview for MDes programs.

Studio Test: This test assesses practical design skills and is conducted separately for each specialization.

Interview: A personal interview is conducted for MDes programs.

3. Selection Process:

Admissions are based on the candidate's performance in the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains, with a weightage given to both stages.

A merit list is prepared based on the combined scores, and candidates are shortlisted for the final stages.

For MDes programs, the studio test and interview scores are also considered.

4. Important Notes:

Online Application:

The application process is entirely online, with the application form available on the official NID website.

Application Fee:

Candidates must pay the required application fee.

Multiple Campuses:

NID has multiple campuses, but the selection process and eligibility criteria are generally the same across all campuses.

PhD Selection:

For PhD programs, the selection process includes proposal screening, a Research Aptitude Test (DRT), and an interview.

Reservation:

NID follows a reservation policy for various categories, including SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD.
