If you are from the CBSE Board of Examination, you have a total of 5 attempts to clear a subject's compartment exam, in which every time, the syllabus will be the same as it was for you when you first appeared for the Board exam for 12th. Even if the syllabus changes for other new students and they get new question papers, you will still get the question paper prepared on the basis of your syllabus.

But, once you run out of all 5 attempts, according to the guidelines issued by CBSE Board of Examination, you will have to re-appear for all the subjects that you opted for in the 12th Boards. Meaning, that you will take the exams for all the subjects.
