Yes, you can change your stream to Humanities after failing in Class 11. Many schools and educational boards allow students to switch streams if they meet the necessary requirements. Check with your school's administration and the CBSE board guidelines for specifics. Pursuing Humanities can open avenues for diverse career paths like literature, social sciences, arts, and more. Remember, setbacks are opportunities for growth, and embracing a new stream can lead to fulfilling academic and career prospects.

Hello Sia,

Greetings!

As the result of 11th class is already out and unfortunately, you could not make it to the next class, you will have to repeat it again . However, there is a possibility of changing the stream to Humanities. The decision is subject to the authority and permission of the principal of the school that you are studying in. If there is a provision to change the streams, then you can do so. But if the officials, such as the principal and teachers do not favour it, then you will have to repeat 11th with the same stream. Under such circumstances, it would be best to contact the class teacher and principal . Only these people can guide you to a better and brighter future.

If you believe that you failed because you could not understand the subjects, only then would it be appropriate to switch the streams, however, if the result was not in favour due to some other internal or external disturbing factors, then changing the stream will not work. There is a general notion that lingers in the minds of the public that Humanities is the easiest stream of all. But this is not the case, one can only fair well in an exam in which he/she has some interest. Therefore, if you are genuinely interested in Humanities, only then should you opt for it, otherwise, if you do not follow your heart, then performing well in Humanities will also be a tough challenge for you.

In case, there are other distractions that are hindering your performance, then you should deal with them. If not dealt properly, then these distractions will follow you in Humanities as well. For example, if it is the school enviornment or the teachers that are troubling you, then you should speak to your parents regarding this and can go for a change in school, instead of changing your stream.

Another alternative, apart from speaking to the parents, at this point, is to speak to your teachers regarding the situation. If you are not comfortable with the class teacher, then you should approach the subject teacher and then the principal. They are more experienced and will be able to provide a better solution.

I hope you find this information useful.

In case of any doubt, feel free to raise more queries. We will be happy to assist you.

All the best for your future endeavours!

Hi Sia,

If you mean starting over - i.e doing class 11 again, then of course change to humanities is possible in any school. But if you want to switch from science to humanities in class 12, then you should first clear class 11 in your school- while the switch might not be applicable in all schools, some schools do allow students to switch. So after clearing class 11 you can approach any school that allows such a switch.

Good Luck!!
