Rank is that it states your position or level out of the students who appeared in a specific examination. It shows you've scored more than the cutoff rank range and you're in the merit list displaying your high marks, that's it. You're eligible to go for the admission and counselling sessions. I think you might have understood the basic difference in the merit order and rank and don't merge it with each other as both are different to each other.
