Hello Sai Shreyas. The whole counselling process is conducted by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The seat allocation process for admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) is being done through the online counselling process conducted by JoSSA. You have to go through the whole counselling process i.e. choice filling -> seat allocation-> document verification-> physical reporting and admission in the alloted institute. You will be alloted a seat according to your rank and the choices of programs you filled during the councelling. You may get a seat in the 1st round itself or you may have to wait for the last round also according to choices you filled. You can check the opening and closing ranks of the choices you opted after each round of seat allocation at https://josaa.nic.in .
Remember, THERE IS NO WAY
THAT A STUDENT WHO HAS LESS RANK THAN
YOU TO GET A SEAT BEFORE YOU DO.
Hope it helps
The allocation of seat in JOSAA will depend on how you have filled in your choices in the choice filling. If the seats that you have filled have a high probabilty of you getting a seat then you might be alloted a seat in the next round otherwise if the choices you have filled have a low probability of you getting a seat then you might not get a seat in NIT. To further evaluate your chances you can use the careers 360 college predictor. Hope this helps.
