Your category rank is used for the utilization of the reserved seats in the colleges you're opting for and the general rank is preferred during the counselling process. Your choice filling must be done on the basis of your general rank.

Once the seat allotment on the basis of general rank is done, the category rank can be utilized. Generally this process goes on till the 3rd round, after that the category rank is applicable.
