Hello aspirant,
With 40k rank chances are very bleak of your getting an nit, still you can wait till last rounds of counselling for some north eastern nits like nit arunachal Pradesh, nit tripura, nit Sikkim, nit meghalaya.
You can also apply for hbtu Kanpur which takes admission on the basis of Jee mains score
