You got 500 marks in NEET exam under EWS category and you are from Jharkhand. With this score, your chances of getting a government MBBS seat in Jharkhand through state quota are very low.

In the past years, the cutoff for EWS category in government colleges of Jharkhand has been around 610 to 630 marks. RIMS Ranchi and other government colleges usually have high cutoffs. For example, RIMS Ranchi had a cutoff of about 636 marks for EWS category in 2024.

Your score of 500 is much lower than the expected cutoff, so it is unlikely that you will get admission in a government MBBS college in Jharkhand through state quota.

But you are still eligible to register for state counselling. You can try for private or deemed universities in Jharkhand or in nearby states where the cutoffs are lower. You should also register for All India Quota counselling through MCC, in case you want to explore other options across India.

So, while government seat chances are very low, you may still have options in private colleges.

Hi dear candidate,

NEET is a national level examination for medicine and generally, the score of 550 or 600 and above is safe for government colleges. At the score of 500, you can definitely get some decent colleges like RIMS Ranchi and PMCH Dhanbad.

Hey Usha,

With 500 marks in NEET under the EWS category from Jharkhand, your chances of getting a government MBBBS seat are low as the expected cutoff for EWS in state quota is around 560-570 above. However you still have a decent chance in private medical colleges under the state quota.Make sure to register for counselling to explore all possible options

Hello,

Firstly, congrats on scoring 500 marks in NEET 2025—that’s a good score! And coming under EWS category from Jharkhand, you do have a chance of getting a government medical seat, especially if the cutoff drops a bit in later rounds. In previous years, some candidates with 500–510 marks from EWS or other reserved categories were able to secure seats in state medical colleges of Jharkhand. The state quota counselling through JCECEB will give you a better chance than the All India Quota (AIQ). Do make sure to participate in all rounds, including Mop-Up and Stray Vacancy, because many seats Open up later rounds.

Keep monitoring the official cutoff updates and apply to multiple colleges. You might not get a top-tier college immediately, but a government seat is still very much possible.
