Hello Aspirant,

Generally, IIT admissions eligibility will depend on JEE performance and not strictly your 12th grading cutting across 5 subjects. While having a good percentage across the three PCM subjects is valuable to aid in successful preparation, the IITs will respectively select you based on your JEE rank. Scoring 75% across the top 5 subjects is a great percentage, however, to get into IIT you will need to lighten the JEE exam and achieve sufficient rank. Just ensure you meet the jee exam authority basic eligibility requirements of passing 12th grade with respective subjects. Therefore, if you are able to prepare well for JEE and meet the cutoff, it is plausible that you can be eligible regardless if your PCM percentage isn't high.

You are not eligible for IITs if your PCM percentage is below 75%, even if your top 5 subjects total 75%.

To be eligible:

75% in PCM or

Be in top 20 percentile of your board in PCM.

Hello there,

No, you are not eligible for IIT admission if your top 5 subjects do not include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) .

IIT Eligibility (via JEE Advanced):

  1. You must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

  2. Minimum 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) in 12th board with PCM or be in the top 20 percentile of your board.

Since your 75% is not from PCM subjects , you do not meet the core eligibility for IIT admission.

You can consider other engineering options like NITs (via JEE Main), private universities, or state-level colleges , if you had PCM as subjects even if marks were lower.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries, feel free to share your questions with us, and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you, and I wish you all the best in your bright future.

Hii,

No, you are ineligible for IIT if you do not have 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).  To be eligible for IIT, you must achieve a 75% in Class 12 with these three subjects or rank in the top 20% of your board with PCM.

If PCM is not one of your top five subjects, it will not be counted.  But don't panic, you can still apply to NITs, IIITs, and top private colleges such as BITS or VIT.
