With you percentile 84 and the category rank of 55000 you may get the seat in low level Nits  and the low level IIITs. And it is very hard for you to get seat in the good nits in good and core branches and you should wait for them un til the last round of the counselling. Please do comment for more doubts.

Thanks for your query. According to your rank in JEE mains you have a 50-50 chance of getting and not getting an IIT. I'll suggest you to do give it a shot because yes there are chances you might get any of the NITs.
