If you just clear JEE Mains next year, getting admission in a good NIT will be very tough because NITs usually need a much better rank. Just clearing means your rank might be too low for top colleges. But don’t lose hope! You can try for other government or private colleges with good courses. Work hard during your drop year, improve your rank, and aim higher. Better preparation will increase your chances of getting a good college next time!

Yes you can get a good NIT college with just clearing you mains. While a good rank in JEE Main is crucial for admission to top NITs, it's not the only factor. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority considers your JEE Main rank, along with your preferences and the available seats, to allocate admissions to NITs and other government engineering colleges.
For NITs if you have nothing to do with branch and are only concern with name of college, 150 marks can help you, but if you want branches like CS/IS you need score of 200+ ,As new NITs score of 130 can also help you but you have to wait till last session.
This above was for general category, for OBC subtract 25-30 marks form above given score and For SC/ST subtract 35–40.
