I have registered for the improvement exam, which I will be taking in 2026. For the JEE Mains 2026 registration, should I select "appeared," "appearing," or something else? Please provide a well-researched and accurate answer, as this decision will impact my candidature and, consequently, my future.

Hello,

If you have already passed Class 12 earlier and you are only taking the improvement exam in 2026, then you must choose “Passed” in the JEE Main 2026 form .

JEE Main always considers the first year in which you passed Class 12 as your official passing year. Improvement does not change that. So your status is not “appeared” and not “appearing.” It stays “Passed.”

You should enter:

  • Pass Status: Passed

  • Year of Passing: Your original Class 12 pass year

  • Marks: Your original marks (you can update later only if NTA allows it)

If you are giving Class 12 for the first time in 2026, then you must choose “Appearing.”

This is the correct and safe option for your JEE Main 2026 registration .

Hope it helps !

Hi,

You should select the appeared option for your JEE Mains 2026 registration since you have already passed your 12th class, and now you are taking an improvement exam. If you were now in the 12th class, then you should have selected appearing, but now that's not the case, so the correct option will be appeared.

Hope it helps!!!

Hello SInchan

As per JEE Mains 2026, you have registered for the class 12th improvement exam, which means you couldn't pass the 12th class, and you're in class 12th as per the records. So, you need to select "Appearing" in the JEE Mains 2026 registration form . When you pass the 12th class, improvement exam, you can update your marks in the JEE Mains registration form and also select "Appeared" through the correction window, when it opens after the registration.

Hello

If you already passed Class 12 earlier and are only giving the 2026 improvement exam, then you should select Passed in the JEE Main 2026 form. Improvement doesn’t change your passing status.
If you have not passed earlier and your real result will come in 2026, then choose Appearing.
Most students who already hold a marksheet always select Passed, even if they’re improving.
Colleges later consider your improved marks during admissions. So just choose the option that matches your actual passing status, not your improvement attempt.
