JEE Mains is the entrance examination for admission into the 31 NITs in India and several other state and private engineering institutions. Further, if you get the minimum cut-off marks in JEE Mains, you can qualify for JEE Advanced examination and you can have a chance to compete for admission into the IITs.

However, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are not the only engineering entrance exams in India. The states hold their own entrance examinations for admission into their engineering colleges, for example, WBJEE, AP EAMCET, KCET, MHT CET etc. So you can sit for the engineering entrance examination of your respective state. Also, many private engineering institutions hold their on entrance examinations like Birla Institute od Technology and Science hold BITSAT. So you can also apply for these exams.

You can take admission in some private colleges without the JEE main ranking.Your question is too fair after JEE Main result announcementDirect engineering admissionoption remains only for exam disqualified candidates. So, if you are are one who was appeared in the entrance exam forB.Tech admissionand some how cloud not cracked it then you may go for the colleges which offer admission either through management quota or other process which allows toB.Tech admission without JEE Main.

Hello!!! Don't be disheartened as JEE MAINS is not the only way to get into a good college. It's just that without clearing JEE MAINS, you cannot make through NIT,IIT,IIIT,GFIT.  But there are many more good private colleges out there which have 2 criterias of selection that are:

1. Most widely used is their own conduction of examination 

2. On the basis of percentage of +2.

You should give the examination of BITSAT which is a renowned institute of IIT level .
