As per the rule relative of the student should be an NRI and live in abroad as an NRI for minimum 5 years.The person who sponsors the students fee should be a first degree relative of the student which be either mother/father or brother sister.
If the student has no Father/Mother then student also may also be taken if having :
Paternal Uncle/Aunt
Maternal Uncle/Aunt
Grandfather/Grandmother
Grandfather/Grandmother

This needs to have for person to be NRI candidate.
