The first thing you need to understand is the exam pattern. The UPSC exam has three stages: the preliminary exam, mains exam, and the personal test (Interview).

You need to build a strong foundation in core subjects like history, geography, polity, and economics. The NCERT books are the key study materials to have a strong foundation the these subjects. Current affairs is as important, so try reading newspapers daily and watch news to stay updated on the current events. you also need to choose an optional subject wisely based on you interest and strength.

Develop strong skills like reasoning, comprehension and basic numerical.

Solve previous year question papers and the mock tests and interviews to have a hold over the exam and the interview.

For interview, you can also review you detailed application form (DAF) for the questions are often drawn from you educational background.

At last, you need to stay confident and have a positive mind.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.

UPSC 2027 preparation should start with NCERT books (6–12) for History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science, and Environment along with daily newspaper reading. In 2025, move to standard books like Laxmikant (Polity), Spectrum (History), and Ramesh Singh (Economy). Alongside, choose your optional subject and begin answer writing practice. By 2026, join a Prelims test series and practice Mains answer writing regularly. After clearing Mains, focus on mock interviews, personality development, and current issues for the final stage. Consistency and regular revision will be key.

Hey! If you want to prepare for UPSC 2027, start with NCERTs from Class 6–12 for History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science, and Environment. Read daily newspapers like The Hindu or Indian Express and make notes for current affairs. Use standard books like Laxmikanth (Polity), Spectrum (Modern India), and G.C. Leong (Geography).

Once basics are strong, move to advanced study of General Studies and your optional subject, practice answer writing, solve previous years’ papers, and take mock tests regularly.

Closer to the exam, focus on revision, time management, and staying healthy and stress-free. After prelims and mains, prepare for the interview by enhancing personality, current affairs knowledge, and confidence through mock interviews.

Consistency, patience, and smart planning are key to clear UPSC 2027.

There are 3 levels in IAS exam prelims, mains and interview

you should start from building a strong foundation with NCERT textbooks, reading a quality daily newspaper for current affairs, and covering the syllabus for prelims.

then practice regular mock tests and daily answer writing into your routine for mains exam because there you can find descriptive questions.

After that for interview section stay updated with current affairs, and participate in mock interviews to ace the interview.
