Don't go with the trend to be honest , do what you really like to study and make a career out of it  . Both the streams are tough . If you want to play with numbers like accounting , study about investments , study corporate finance , economics etc: then finance is your choice . If you like to communicate , study about marketing management , sales etc : then marketing is your choice .  Depends upon your career goal , i would advise you to first think and  write your career goal where do you see yourself in coming years and then choose a field of study because this will be your life . 

Finance means how much money is required to build a company, to run it , to maintain it , how much is the risk  . Marketing is how to make a development in a company , and finance is the resource for that development . To be honest both are a great field of study . I have simplified it so hope you get it .
