Hello Amey,
If your general ranking is around 1800 than definitely you able to fetch seat in mechanical engineering branch from top IITs.
If your category rank (OBC CATEGORY) is 1800 than you able to fetch seat in mechanical department but not in TOP IITs.
Here top IITs is old IIT as reference.
