The cutoff every year is decided as per ranks which varies every year depending on difficulty level of exam, total candidates and performance.

Hence, any rank below 10,000 shall fetch h you Mechanical engineering from top NITs.

Ranks above 10k shall have mediocre chances with newer NITs like Durgapur, Kanpur, Silchar, etc.
