You can defenitely get an NIT with that rank and category. Since NITs also have home state quota, you can try getting  a seat of the desired branch in the one of your state.

I am myself an NITian. So i know as i have seen students of that rank in my college.

You can hope for the best and fill the preferences wisely during the counseling. =)
