A deemed-to-be university in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (SIST) was formerly Sathyabama University. By the late Jeppiaar, Sathyabama Engineering College was established in 1987 with three departments and three UG programmes. It became a deemed university in 2001. Currently, the university offers 70 regular undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses across 11 departments
