Yes B.Tech in Information Technology is definitely a good branch if you plan on going into cyber crime investigation. Cyber crime investigation requires you to be familiar with the computer and its processes and thus a degree in computer science or information technology really adds to your profile and enhances your chances in order to get the positions you wish to achieve.

What else you need to know about joining the Cyber Crime Cell:

• In order to join the cyber crime cell you need to do your Bachelor's compulsorily, Master's is optional but doing it will improve your job prospects.
• After the completion of your education it is suggested that you do an internship so as you gain some field experience and become more eligible for special agent training programs.
• Cyber crime departments are included in organisations like CID, CBI, IB.
• In order to join the CID you need to appear for the Combined Graduate Preliminary Examination (CGPE) conducted by the SSC board every year. The age limit for this examination is from 20 to 27 years.
• In order to join the CBI you need to appear for the examinations conducted by UPSC. This exam is held once a year for the post of Sub-Inspectors of Police in CBI and the forms are published in the employment news in October.
• You can join the CBI or CID and then transfer to the cyber crimes department.
• To be eligible you should have completed you graduation in any discipline preferably IT/CSE for Cyber Cells. Certain physical requirements state that you should be a minimum of 165 cm in height and you should have a 6/6 vision. Your should be between 20 to 27 years of age.
