Each and every college has its own education and marks giving system. Some have CGPA and some percentage system.However most of the college currently uses CGPA system rather than the percentage.
So each college has different campus or different department for each engineering field. So marks awarded to you will depend on the the subjects you are taking.for example 'Engineering mechanics' is a mechanical subject so mechanical department will award you the marks. For 'Basic Electrcials system' , this is a subject of electrical department, so they will award you for this. This both subjects you are going to study in first year of your college. Thus in the end every awarded marks is combined to get your CGPA.
