Dear Student,

It is highly paid sector. There are jobs that involve supervision, construction, design and analyzes of private as well as public projects, such as dams, highways, canals, water sewages and bridges. In India there are different types of companies that hire Civil engineers. The prominent ones are Contractors who are responsible for execution of designs and construction plan. Though they hire you because you have graduated in Civil engineering but they are not looking for your technical proficiency. Instead they expect you to accomplish set milestones by using your aptitude (in case you are in Planning) or your managerial as well as people skills (in case you are in Execution). So far, in India only architect-consultant firms demand a technical job. In nutshell, unlike Middle East, a major segment of construction industry in India doesn't focus on innovation or R&D. Use of past experience to solve new problems is all what they do. So Civil engineering in India is generally never about engineering. It's more about doing repetitive task or application of experience.
