In first and second sem of engineering, you have to study basics of all courses. Your branch study begins from 2nd year. Coming to your question, yes it can be bit difficult if you leave the studies for a day before exam. If you don't let the course load pile up, it will be very easier to handle the semester. The subjects may vary from college to college, but they teach english, a programming language, maths, and other subjects. But You need not worry about that now. Also, if you work half as hard as you did for JEE preparation, you'll ace the exams.
