As per your question, absolutely no it is not a mistake to go for ssc cgl after persuing btech. The thing btech students go for ssc cgl is because of lack of skill as well as lack of job opportunity. So if you are persuing btech from private college ,then as usual they didn't have good facility for practical knowledge ,which will lead to lack of skills and that is the reason students didn't get hired by the good and reputed companies. And then afterwards they go for job alternatives.

Going for ssc cgl, btech students can crack this kind of exams easily as compared to non btech aspirants as per thier understanding knowledge and ability.
