Ranks are predicted based on previous years trends, which heavily depends on the actual ranks obtained by the student which are released by the testing academy (NTA in the case of NEET). Without previous years trends, it will only be a wild guess. This is why before NTA releases the result, data from 2020 and previous years is used to tell students their tentative rank.
