No, it is not good to drop for a year for practice as there are many good companies which consider your gap before giving placements.

There is enough time you can easily practice for JEE exam.

You can follow below startegies to crack your exam-

Choose Proper Study Material:

It is a common misconception among aspirants that preparing from a number of books will help them in getting good marks. The truth is that referring the right books only will aid you in securing high. Don’t run behind multiple study material to prepare for JEE Main.

Suggesting the books for preparation of Mathematics, Dr. Ravi Prakash- Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Delhi University, says, “Complete Mathematics by McGraw Hill Education Pvt Ltd., Coordinate Geometry by S.L. Loney and 103 Trigonometry Problems by Titu Andreescu & Zuming Feng are some of the good books that JEE aspirants can refer”

Strengthen Important & Key Concepts:

Students appearing for JEE Main should know that not all topics carry equal weightage of marks. Some topics carry more marks, while others don’t. Devoting much of your time on such important topics is recommended. You just need to identify such topics and practice them more.

Physics: Newton’s Laws of Motion, Work Energy Power, Conservation Laws, Rotation Motion, Electrostatics, EMI, Heat and Thermodynamics, Nuclear Physics and Radio Activity, Semiconductor

Chemistry: Redox Reactions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, GOC, P Block Elements

Mathematics: Conic Section, P&C, Probability, Quadratic Equation, Definite Integration, Differential Equation, Vector and 3D, Complex Number

Solve Previous Year Papers

Solving previous year papers is the most important and required thing to do if you want to excel in JEE.

Good Luck!!

If you have any other option then don't drop. But if you have confidence on yourselves and wanted to be in iits or nits then you can drop. There is no problem during placement since 90% people drop. But dropping 2 times is not good . Keep this in your mind.

I dont think so that this is a good idea as you still have enough time for the preparation as having gap between 12th and B.Tech is not considered in a positive way. So I would say better to devote the left our time in your preparation and be determined that you will have to clear the jee exam with decent score. Apart from this, you can follow below given preparation tips -

I would suggest you to go through the below preparation points as these will be helping you -

1. Know your Syllabus Well.
2. Work on a Time Table.
3. Make your Basic Concepts Strong.
4. Improve your Weak Points.
5. Write Notes and Prepare Flash Cards.
6. Attempt Mock Test and Solve Sample Papers.
7. Revision.
8. Make Sure to Take Breaks.
9. Check out Proper Books for Preparation.

Books which you can consider -
Physics
Concepts of Physics Vol I and II by H.C. Verma
Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov
Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday, Resnick & Walker

Chemistry
Numerical Chemistry by P. Bahadur
Organic Chemistry by Paula Bruice Yurkanis
Inorganic Chemistry by J.D. Lee
Organic Chemistry by Morrison & Boyd

Mathematics
