Well it is not that important to buy laptop in 1st year but may be the requirement may differ according to your course and subjects.You can go smoothly but still i suggest you to buy the laptop if you are going to be in hostel because there are some softwares required and also your studies.And if you are at home and have desktop computer then it is of no issue.You can go for 2nd year to buy a self laptop.
