There would be two sessions in JEE 2026 exam, one in January and other in April and there is NO compulsion to give both it's student's choice, they can appear in any one session.

no, it is not mandatory to appear in the 1st attempt of JEE Main to give the 2nd attempt. both attempts are treated as separate opportunities, and you can choose to appear in only one or both.. even if you skip the first session, you can still register and appear in the second session without any issue.
