Yes, a degree in law is the basic requirement and often the first step towards being judge. The degree must be recognised by the Bar Council of India. There are numerous colleges and universities which are renowned for providing 3-year LLB degree or even a 5-year integrated degree along with BA/BBA/B.Com/B.Sc. which can be pursued after graduation.

After that the candidate is supposed to write the State Judicial Services Examination which is held by various State governments from time to time. This exam has three stages- preliminary, mains and viva voce.

The exam is open to fresh law graduates as well. There is an age limit of 21 to 35 yers for application and the qualification therefore requires you to have an LLB degree which is cleared in the first attempt, making it an important aspect of the whole occupation.

The examination will have the following:

Preliminary exam:

There will be 100 objective-type questions. The tie duration will be 2 hours and the test will be online. These laws should be thorough for the same:

Main Exam:

This will be a descriptive type written exam. There will be the following components for the exam.

1. The candidate will have to frame issues and write judgement in civil cases (40 marks)
2. The candidate will have to frame penalties and write judgement for criminal cases (40 marks)
3. Translation from Hindi to English and Vice Versa, each for 10 marks

Yes, LLB degree is necessary to become a judge.

To be eligible for the Judiciary Exam, the aspirants must have graduation in any of the streams with LLB with minimum 55% marks in both. Without LLB degree you can give judiciary exams.
