Yes, mathematics is compulsory to study for a food technology course, because its likely that the subjects you would study in higher classes would include mathematical modeling of food and processing parameters.

Secondary subjects include Food Microbiology, Sanitation & Hygiene, Preparation & Packaging Materials, Food Analysis Adulteration & Testing, Food Toxicology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math. So yes maths is an important subject.
