Major difference between MBA and PGDM :

MBA: A Master in Business Administration (MBA) is a degree course offered by the colleges affiliated to the universities. So, only universities can offer MBA programmes.

PGDM: A Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a diploma course offered by the institutes that are recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and which are autonomous and not affiliated to any university. However, accreditation by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) makes an institute's PGDM course equivalent to an MBA.

Most of the people treat it similarly whereas, many believe that MBA has a lot more value than PGDM. Here, are some of the points of differentiation between PGDM and MBA.

1. MBA means Master of Business Adminstration and PGDM means Post Graduate Diploma Management.

2. MBA offered by the colleges affiliated to Universities, so only universities can offer MBA program. Whereas, PGDM is offered by autonomous college which do not belong to any University like IIM. These Institutes are recognized by AICTE which makes it equivalent to MBA (Only if the Institute offering PGDM has accreditation from the AIU).

3. A MBA student will be gaining more theoretical concept whereas a PGDM student will be learning more soft skills (the curriculum as such is similar).
