Hi,
Presently clinical pharmacy sector is not well established- there comes the first and the biggest struggle. Pharm D is a course which aims at hospitals and patients but NOT industries and manufacturing. Unlike B Pharmacy, a Pharm D graduate can not enter bulk productions/ QA/QC/ formulations etc..
However, I will try my best to explicit pros and cons of choosing Pharm D in India after +2.
PROS:
If you miss out MBBS, it is the best course to get in and still be in medical field. You will trained to treat patients just like any medico.
The course curriculum is designed in such a way that initially you will be dealing with Pharma subjects, later on you will be submerged into subjects which will be core and spine of the entire course.
You get a chance to rub shoulders with eminent and experienced physicians (again that depends on the tie up hospital your institution has).
If you deal with your core subjects efficiently there are extreme possibilities that even in India while you are moving around with Doctors (during your final year- Internship) Doctors oblige and bind to your regimens and prescriptions. Once the trust factor is developed between you and physician you can see and do wonders.
You will directly interact with patients during patient counseling, you will be the pioneer in drug dosing and personalized treatment patterns.
For any drug related query you will be called (that might be regarding drug, dose, form, dose adjustments, route, adverse reactions, side effects, hypersensitivity and what not!)
From second year, you deal with multiple case studies and present them to the rest of the healthcare team. Trust me you will learn a lot during this phase.
You will be prefixed with Dr upon completion.
