The major difference between both these field is that IT deals with the application of computing technology to real life processes, while, Computer Science deals with the science that facilitates these applications. There is not much difference between Computer Science and Information Technology. CS is both hardware and software related, where IT is mostly software oriented. Even the syllabus and placements are also same.
