You usually get selected or accepted for a Research Internship, when youve some experience with any particular Field of Interest, as well as have good grades and atleast a project and relevamt certifications under your resume.

I would advise you spend your first year at Institute developing an Interest in the Subject and try getting a Project under one of your Professors once youre done with your First Year. You may even try to get a Project under some Professors or Labs at IITs, NITs, CSIR and Other Research Institutions. This should be your first step towards your career in research.
