As similar as JEE, in UPSC reservation doesn’t affect ranks. A common merit list is prepared for all as per the marks obtained in mains and interview.

Reservations is provided on vacancies. Hence the cutoff for obc, sc, st are lower to general as they have access to not only their reserved seats but also general seats. Therefore chances of finding a place in merit list increases.Secondly reservations are applicable at every stage right from prelims to cadre allocation. But no benefit is given while awarding marks. Complete selection depends upon available vacancies for every category. Hope this will help you.
