Hey Surpiya.

Considering the fact that you have completed your graduation degree and want go pursue a 3 year law degree, No, you cannot apply for CLAT for a 3 year LLB course.

CLAT in an entrance test for admission only into all National Law universities or NLUs in India which only provide 5 year Integrated course of law which combines an Undergraduate degree with law, for example- BA LLb, BCOM LLb, BBA LLb, BSC LLB, etc. CLAT does not provide admission to 3 year law courses.

As you have completed your graduation already  a 3 year LLb degree is more suitable for you as compared to a 5 year law degree. You can apply for admission to a 3 year LLb course while you are in your final year or after it's completion.

There are various reputed  colleges and universities in India that provide admission to 3 year law courses. Your admission in the course  will be based on your score and your rank in the entrance tests. There is no common entrance for the same, each college has its own entrance and modr of admission. Few of the most sought after entrances for a 3 year law course are-

  • DU LLb-  for admission in all the law faculties of Delhi University. It is one of the most sought after law college for 3. year law

  • MH CET- for admission in GLC Mumbai, ILS Pune and other law colleges in Maharashtra

  •  PU LLB- For admission in Law department of Panjab University,Chandigarh and it's regional centres

  • TS LAWCET-  for admission in various Law colleges in Tamil Nadu

  • BHU LLB- For admission in Banaras Hindu University.

  • BVP LLB- For admission in Bharatiya Vidyapeeth University

  •  LSAT-  for admission in various Private Law colleges like O.P. Jindal Global Law school, IIT Kharagpur etc

  • SLAT- For 3 year course of Law in Symbiosis Law School, Pune

  • CEE Kerela- For admission into Law colleges in kerela

  • And other such state law entrance exams and self conducted entrances by various universities

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA-

  • You can apply for these in your final year as well as after completion of your UG degree and you'd be eligible to take admission only if you score the minimum qualifying percentage in your UG degree which is usually 45-50% in most of these colleges and entrances.

You can use the link which is given below in case you need any other information regarding the same.

Dear Supriya,

Hardly there would be any institution taking direct admission to 3-year LLB. Every institution has its own selection criteria. It may include taking admissions based on CLAT PG scores of students, or they may conduct their own entrance exams or go by the state level entrances, for instance, MH CET Law conducted for the state of Maharashtra.

So, first, you should select the institutions you aim to take admission in and then you will have to go through as per their selection criteria. That said, many law colleges certainly use scores of CLAT PG for admission purposes.

Hope that helps.

Good Luck!
