The answer key is basically released when the exam is over so that the students can cross-check their answers and calculate their probable marks. Since the results are announced a bit late, the answer key basically act as a stress reliever for the students. They beforehand have an idea on will they qualify the exam or not.

For JEE Main 2018, the funda for the answer key is this :

For Paper 1 (Offline exam), you will get answer key for Set A, B,C,D -  to get question paper for all the sets.

While for Paper 2 (Offline Exam). you will get answer key for set W,X,Y,Z.

Also, there are two types of answer key which are available for JEE Main:

Official answer key which is to be released by CBSE on April 24, 2018 at its official website.
Unofficial answer key which is released by Coaching Institutes such as Aakash, FIITJEE, etc. It is released an hour after the exam is done.

Now, that you have got the answer key, calculate your marks as per it.

For every correct answer, add 04 marks.
For every incorrect answer, deduct 01 marks.
If you have marked more than one answer to a question, even if one of them is correct it will still be considered as incorrect answer. So, if you have marked more than one answer, deduct 01 marks.
If no answer is marked for a question, do not deduct or add any marks.
You can check your score by using the formula

Number of correct answers x 4 - Number of incorrect answers - 1
