Before moving to the diagram of gearbox, let's know about gearbox first. Gearbox often referred as transmission is a unit that uses gears and gear trains to provide speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source to another device. Gearboxes are employed to convert input from a high speed power sources to low speed.

Examples of gearbox are - Lifts, Automobiles, Creanes, Lathe and many others. Kinetic diagram of multi speed gearbox is called Kinematic Layout and it depicts all functional resemblance of the gearbox.
