Basically it depends from college to college and university to university. Some of the Institutions allow as they give the allowance. You can change from any of the branch to any other branch you would like to. You must contact the authorities about it in the college.

Yes Upgrades are possible in Engineering. So basically 1st year all the subjects are same. And if you perform better then you could probably get a seat into CSE. But if also depends on the availability of vacant seats in CSE. If seats are available and you perform better like 1 or 2 in the class. You can get upgraded to CSE. Try to be on top as more students will be willing for an upgrade.

Engineering life me students ko branch change karne ka sirf ek hi chance milta hai voh bhi jab voh first year me hota hai.Agar kisi student ko branch change karna ho toh use first year me hi karna padhta hai aur uske bhi process hote hai.jaise ki pointer ek important criteria hai agar aapka pointer accha ho tab hi aap branch change kar sakte ho.

aur aap mech to cs ya koi bhi branch to branch change kar sakte ho same college me.

In some Institute branch swapping facility is available.also there is some criteria that must need to be fulfilled for branch swapping.Seat must be available in that stream in which you want swapped and your CGPA OR SGPA must be greater than 8.5.In IITs and some goverment engineering college such type of facility is available...So you should check first...

Well let me tell you that yes you can change your branch from mechanical to cs since in first year all branches have to study the same subject but it totally depend upon colleges and vacant seat available in the branches.There are some colleges where you cant change your branches while some colleges allow to change the branch.

Also to change the branch in second year you have to score good cgpa in first year above 9 to 9.5 (depend upon college).
